FXi: Malibu’s Response to the Avid Skier’s Growing Family
The 2009 Response FXi is a new cross-over from Malibu Boats that accommodates an athletic family with interior space, professional-level slalom performance and wakeboard ability. This 20-foot by 8.2-foot direct-drive ski boat lights up the course with soft flat wakes at almost any line length. The increased beam and freeboard offers more room for family. Additionally, the width of the Response FXi joined with available ballast and the available Patented Power Wedge causes this versatile Malibu to kick-up great wakes at wakeboarding speeds. At Malibu compromise is a copout, they build boats to do it all for you. Cross-over or not, this boat is built to ski. Malibu has taken their agile 20-foot Cut Diamond Hull and put it under a multi-port fuel injected direct-drive engine to create an amazing traditional-style ski boat. The Malibu Boats mission statement begins with "Build the best boat..." and continues with "...for a fair price..." This is how they honor their commitment to excellence and to their family of owners. "The best boat for a fair price" pledge is fulfilled with standard features like the Cut Diamond on the Response LXi, FXi and Sunscape 20 LSV. Malibu's exclusive Cut Diamond hull design creates flat ski wakes, a superior ride and amazing control. The Cut Diamond hull was designed for ride and handling, but above all, water sports performance. Shaped with a running surface that was specifically designed to command the flow of water beneath the boat, the Cut Diamond hull was introduced in 2007 on 20 and 20.5 foot Malibu boats to create a narrow, soft, flat wake. This development was a huge surprise to the industry, considering the previous version of this hull was the 2006 SV23 Diamond. It was the SV23 Diamond that helped Chris Parish break the Men’s Slalom World Record. This World record fell behind the 2006 Response LXi and this Malibu was dubbed ,”…one of the best ski boats on the planet,” by WaterSki Magazine. But the engineers at Malibu Boats still had a sneaking suspicion that they could make the hull even better. The Malibu engineer responsible for creation of the Cut Diamond hull, Dan Gasper, explained his motivation. “When we developed the SV23 Diamond hull, we knew it was the best performing 3-event hull the industry had ever seen. The response, records and awards we received were amazing, but we continued searching for ways to improve. That’s what we do.” Gasper continued, “So we began developing the Cut Diamond hull. And after the latest hull release we are still searching for ways to improve, but with each innovation enhancement that task becomes more difficult. The Cut Diamond hull is very near perfect.” The angle of the strakes is what makes a Malibu hull a Diamond. On a Diamond hull they are sharply angled down. This shape allows more air to flow under the boat along the running surface and ultimately displaces less water for a flat wake. “…terrific at even the shortest line lengths at 36 mph.” WaterSki Magazine The Cut Diamond hull also benefits form a straight chine design. The chine of a Malibu hull allows the boat to maneuver in and out of sharp turns with extreme precision. This type of handling is particularly useful in 3-event tournament situations when records are at stake. This level of control is also undeniable on an open lake when doubling back to retrieve a fallen skier. Team Malibu professional slalom skier and ski school owner, Drew Ross, is Cut Diamond hull believer. “The Cut Diamond hull is the most amazing hull I have ever driven let alone skied.” Ross explained, “Whether aggressive or passive turns, this boat corners with control and absolutely no cavitation.” The Cut Diamond hull also supports a great rough-water ride. The entry-point of the hull is designed to dissipate the shock of choppy water. Where the hull transitions from entry to running surface the compound curves are specifically shaped for a smooth ride no matter what the water conditions. First 1260 Behind A Wakesetter VLX This is our favorite video this month. Not because it's new. Harf did this in mid-September. We just realized something really cool about Danny's 1260. It was landed behind a Malibu Wakesetter VLX. The Malibu Wakesetter VLX is the only wakeboard boat to have ever pulled a 1260. Danny Harf's 1260 was pulled by Chad Sharpe's Malibu Wakesetter VLX and was shot on video by Shane Bonifay using Aaron Katen's gear. Take a look at the video posted on the Fox web site and see if you can spot the VLX. |

People: The Isners Help Dad Land a Backroll and a Malibu Boat for Christmas
. Inspired by the Malibu Boat Rockin' Christmas Event, we thought we could put you into the Christmas spirit by sharing some fun Malibu Christmas stories. We are publishing owner accounts of amazing Christmas surprises that started with a Malibu boat and ended with extremely happy families. The first of these Malibu Boats Christmas tales takes place in Washington State just before the Christmas of 2007. The Isner family visited Bake's Marine, their local Malibu Boats dealer, to take their '04 Sunscape 21 LSV to be winterized. When Joe and Kim Isner dropped their boat off they noticed the new 2008 Malibu boats in the Bake's showroom. They were all over the Wakesetter 23 LSV checking out every addition and advancement Malibu had made since their boat was made. The Isner girls, Devon 14 and Kendall 12, loved the added room. But Dad Joe was day dreaming about the coveted backroll he had been trying to land. He just knew the 23 LSV would give him the wake he knew he needed to get it done. "My husband was giddy when he learned about the ballast tanks and was convinced he would be able to land his backroll with a wake like that!" Kim recalled. So Kim and Joe sat down with Bake's Marine Sales Manager Matt Cour and looked at the numbers. Although Joe was excited, he wanted to think about it. He knew he wanted to get a new boat this year, but wanted to think about it just the same. It was after Joe's excited display that Kim, Kendall and Devon began planning the biggest and best Christmas surprise ever for the man in their lives. Kim called Matt back and let him know she wanted to surprise Joe with the 23 LSV for Christmas. Matt suggested Bake's keep the boat until just before the big day so Joe didn't catch wind of their plans. So after the deal was made the boat stayed at the dealership until then. Kim had a friend of the family pick the boat up a few days before Christmas. Matt had ordered a special big red bow online and made sure Kim's friend had that and the boat ready for the big surprise. The family friend dropped the boat off in the Isner's driveway at around 11am on Christmas morning. The whole family was inside opening gifts. When the last present had been opened, so Joe thought, the girls lead him outside. He couldn't believe what he saw there in front of the house. It was a 2008 Wakesetter 23 LSV complete with a huge red bow. Do you think he saw himself completing that backroll too? Joe was completely surprised. Kim's plan was a huge success and they have been enjoying their Wakesetter all summer. Kim informed us. "And my husband finally landed his backroll!" We asked Kim how she justified such a large purchase, especially as a Christmas gift. She had this to say, "I consider it a great investment, especially considering the fun and memories we have shared with our family and friends."
