What Power Wedge III Does

Malibu’s exclusive Power Wedge™ III hydrofoil is one of the biggest keys to creating a world-class wake or wave behind your Malibu boat. Power Wedge III also provides unmatched versatility that allows riders across the spectrum from first-timers to seasoned pros to dial in a wake or wave that’s perfectly sized and shaped from the exact same Malibu boat. Here’s how.

How Power Wedge III Works

First it helps to understand how Power Wedge III works. This Surf Gate animation should help quite a bit. Power Wedge III is an important part of your boat’s Integrated Surf Platform, or I.S.P™. All of your boat’s wake- and wave-making capabilities come from the parts of I.S.P. working together.

What is Power Wedge III?

At first glance, Power Wedge III looks like a hydrofoil but it’s much more than that. A traditional hydrofoil is designed to work at only one position and is typically fixed, where Power Wedge III has multiple usable positions. In fact, it has more usable positions for 2019 than ever before. Also new for 2019, Power Wedge III has more surface area, which makes a huge difference in its effectiveness in all those positions.

How to Use Power Wedge III

When it’s time to move some water and create a pro-level wake or wave, Power Wedge III can create up to 1,500 pounds of simulated ballast. As you deploy Power Wedge III from the Malibu Command Center™ or Surf Band™ wrist remote, you’ll see the back of the boat start to drop farther into the water, which will immediately beef up your wake or wave. As you adjust Power Wedge III into the down positions, your wake or wave face will get longer and more mellow without losing any size. It’s best to start in the middle and adjust up or down until you find exactly the ramp you’re looking for. You can monitor Power Wedge III’s progress from an easy-to-read digital display at the Malibu Command Center or you can use Malibu’s exclusive Surf Band for next-level control while you’re riding.

One of Power Wedge III’s lesser-known positions is Lift Mode. The system automatically goes into Lift Mode to get the boat on plane more quickly and when your speed is set above surf speed to run more efficiently. However, you can purposely select Lift Mode from the Malibu Command Center when you’re going at speeds under 26 miles per hour to make the wake smaller and more approachable for beginners or junior riders. In this case you would want to drain some of the ballast as well. The beauty is that your wake or wave is still going to have that perfect Malibu shape no matter whether you choose to make it big or small.

How to Use Power Wedge III with Surf Band

With most boats you have to adjust your wake settings from inside the boat or talk to the driver while you’re riding to try to get your ideal settings. With a Malibu, you have the option of setting up your wake or wave from inside the boat or while you’re riding with our exclusive Surf Band. Surf Band can adjust Power Wedge III as well as the speed, Surf Gate™ side and even your music volume right from your wrist. Setting up your perfect wake or wave is a breeze when you’re watching it change while you ride with Surf Band.

Next Steps

We hope this gives you a better idea of how to use Power Wedge III to make your perfect wake, no matter what level of experience the rider has. Of course, you can always let the presets do the work and hit “surf left” or “wakeboard beginner” or whichever preset fits your situation but knowing how Power Wedge III works gives you the ability to tweak your wake or wave on the fly to accommodate any situation.

Power Wedge III works in conjunction with the rest of the parts that make up I.S.P., so the next step is to learn about Quad Hard Tank and Surf Gate .
